TROOP 2'S HIGHLAND TREK 2016!

On June 28th, 14 members of Troop 2 from Milford, Massachusetts will be traveling to the Scottish Highlands to visit our friends in the 3rd Inverness (Crown) Scout Group in Inverness, Scotland. This trek is designated 'Highland Trek 2016', or HT16.

We have been in contact with the 3rd Inverness (Crown) Scout Group since the year 2000. This will be Troop 2's third trek to the Highlands, having visited Scotland in 2003 (HT03) and 2011 (HT11), while 3rd Inverness (Crown) Scout Group has been over the pond to visit Milford on three separate occasions (2001, 2005 and 2008).

Follow our blog while we're away and keep up to date with our adventures; even add your own comments if you wish!

We expect to blog each day or two (as time and internet access allow) and also plan to add photos of our daily highlights, so check back regularly!

The Highland Quaich

At the Ceilidh last night the Crown Scouts presented Troop 2 with a Highland Quaich, the Cup of Friendship. The word Quaich is derived from the Gaelic word Cuach which means "shallow cup". The Quaich originated in the Scottish Highlands centuries ago and became the favorite drinking cup throughout Scotland.   Traditionally, the Quaich is used when offering a guest "the cup of welcome" and again when offering a farewell or parting drink.
